Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro Design and Build
The Flare S8 Pro has a quite sizeable screen with slim bezels around, a broad chin, and a drop notch. Thanks to its rounded corners, you can comfortably hold the phone in your hand.
The phone is made of glossy polycarbonate plastic that tends to attract fingerprints and smudges. Fortunately, there is a clear case provided. On the back, on the top left corner is the dual-camera setup and an accompanying LED flash. There is also a fingerprint scanner.
On the left of the phone is a hybrid dual SIM tray. On the right are the volume rockers and the power button. You may find the button placement a little bit higher if your hands are small.
Moving to the top of the phone is the noise-canceling microphone. At the bottom are the USB-C port, the microphone, and the speaker grilles. Unfornately, there is no 3.5mm audio port. You do get a 3.5mm-to-USB-C adapter.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro Display
Next in the review is the display. The Flare S8 has a sizeable 6.5-inch HD+ display with a pretty warm, yellowish hue. Due to the screen protector, the phone doesn’t produce accurate color. The colors look somewhat muted. On the other hand, under sunlight, the panel is usable at 70%.
Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Pro Camera
In terms of camers, the smartphone is equipped with a 20MP + 5MP camera module on the back and a 20MP selfie camera on the front. Besides the usual photo and video modes, you have several modes including Beauty, FaceCute with AR stickers, Portrait, and Bokeh mode.
Images produced by the selfie camera look slightly washed out. The details aren’t sharp. The response rate of the camera is rather slow. So because of subject movement, the photos become blurry. In portrait mode, the camera doesn’t perform really well in separating the subject and the background. As a result, the subject gets blurred as well.
The rear cameras produce good enough photo. The sharpness is pretty average. It takes the app some time to take the photo. so if the subject moves, the photo will look blurry. Similar to the selfie camera, the subject-background separation of the rear cameras is weak.
The smartphone can record videos up to 1080p. There is no video stabilization though. If you want to shoot videos with the Cherry Flare S8 Pro, it is best to use a monopod or a tripod.
Cherry Flare S8 Pro Performance
The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset with PowerVR GE8320 GPU and 4GB of RAM. In AnTuTu, the phone managed to score 85,368. In Geekbench 5, it got 785 for the multi-core test and 185 for the single-core test.
The Flare S8 Pro can handle simple tasks like web and social media, media streaming, and file transferring. Even without any app running in the background, navigation is a bit sluggish. For gaming, the phone suffers frame drops and lags in games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty. The gameplay becomes smoother with the Game Boost mode.
