Samsung M30 Price Philippines & Specs Review: Good, Not For Gamers

Samsung Galaxy M series was originally targeted at young millennials. However, it is a group of customers that Samsung has lost to Chinese phone makers for several years, and recapture them isn’t an easy task. That is why Samsung has opted for aggressive pricing for its Galaxy M smartphones in comparison to other Samsung smartphones. Let’s take a look at Samsung M30 price Philippines 2021 and specifications and see if it can compete against smartphones from Realme, Xiaomi, and more.

Samsung Galaxy M30 price Philippines was originally PHP 12,490.
  • 4GB RAM + 64GB storage: PHP 9,990

Samsung Galaxy M30 review: Display & Design

The Samsung Galaxy M30 shares quite a few similarities with its siblings Galaxy M10 and M20. At the top, there is still a water-drop notch for a selfie camera. The device features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with thin bezels on the sides and at the top while the bottom chin is a bit thicker.

Samsung has gone for a plastic unibody for this phone and offered it in two color variants, Gradation Black and Gradation Blue. The unit we got was the Gradation Blue option, which came with an eye-catching blue gradient at the back. It is pretty comfortable to hold this phone on hand thanks to the curved sides.

Having an AMOLED panel at this price range is very rare.

Moving to the display aspect, I can safely say that the Galaxy M30 display is the best in its segment. Samsung has long been known to produce the best OLED panels for smartphones. So it isn’t a big surprise when the Galaxy M30 has a wonderful display. The display shows punchy colors and remarkable saturation levels. The display is also very bright, which might blind you for several seconds if you suddenly turn it on in the dark. However, the auto-brightness feature was a hit and miss, so I ended up turning it off after just a day.

Going by the Samsung Galaxy M30 price Philippines, I would say this is the best smartphone for consuming media you could find for around PHP 10,000.

Samsung Galaxy M30 review: Performance

This is where I dislike Samsung’s decision. It keeps using the same Exynos 7904 chipset that we have seen on the Galaxy M20. It is still fine if you use the phone for day-to-day tasks like web browsing or messaging apps. However, when it comes to gaming, the phone’s performance was a total disaster. The phone started to stutter more often when I tried the multi-window feature. With 4GB of RAM, I could still switch between apps quite comfortably.

Galaxy M30 benchmarks

I could still run PUBG Mobile on the phone at medium settings, but I did notice lots of frame drops during the match. When I changed the graphics settings to Smooth, the lags were gone and the game ran much smoother. However, I still felt the heat from the phone after just around 40 minutes of playing.

So far, Samsung M30 specs and price Philippines are a mixed bag. While it has one of the best displays in the price range, its performance is pretty much inferior to other big names in the same segment.

Samsung Galaxy M30 review: Cameras

Samsung uses a triple-camera lens setup inside the Galaxy M30. However, when pitted against the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Galaxy M30 performance seems inferior.

For the Samsung M30 price Philippines, you can get a smartphone with quad rear cameras, with an additional macro lens.

Rear cameras:

  • 13MP f/1.9 main camera
  • 5MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera
  • 5MP f/2.2 depth-sensing camera

Front camera:

  • 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera

Photos in daylight look great with natural-looking shades and good contrast levels. The camera was quick to lock focus. The ultra-wide-angle camera is very useful when you need to get as much as possible into one shot. However, the wide-angle photos sometimes were horribly distorted. Samsung offers a shape corrector to fix the issue, but sometimes it was too much to fix.

The depth-sensing camera did a good job with great edge detection and a natural-looking separation of the subject from the background.

Moving to low-light photography, the cameras perform decently when there was a light source nearby. However, things went downhill when I moved to darker situations. I saw lots of noise, which appeared to be dealt with pretty aggressively. The outcomes were washed out with very little detail. Sadly, there isn’t a dedicated Night Mode to improve its low-light capabilities.

As for the selfie camera, I was pretty happy with how it performed in both daylight and low-light conditions.

Overall, the handset’s cameras performed pretty well. While you can get phones with quad cameras for the Samsung M30 price Philippines, the photo quality is unlikely to get any better than this.

If you can stretch your budget, the Galaxy A50s is also a decent pick for a slightly higher price.

Samsung Galaxy M30 review: Battery

The Galaxy M30 is packed with a 5,000 mAh battery. I didn’t use it much for gaming, but I was happy with how long it lasted with my usage. I mostly used the phone for watching videos, listening to music on Spotify, Slack, lots of Whatsapp messages, two email accounts in the background, taking quite a few photos, and then a few voice calls. With that usage, the phone somehow managed to last for nearly two days on a single charge.

The included 18W fast charger is decent for its price but is still a bit not enough for the beefy 5,000 mAh battery. I had to wait around two hours and 24 minutes for the phone to fully charge.

Samsung M30 Price Philippines 2021 & Specifications: Verdict

The brilliant battery life and the excellent display make the Galaxy M30 a very good pick for those who love consuming media on their smartphones. Thanks to the Widevine L1 certification, you can stream HD content on popular streaming platforms like Netflix.

The Samsung M30 price Philippines is around PHP 10,000 in 2021.

You can also pick the Galaxy M30 for its photo quality. The Galaxy M30 cameras perform well in daylight and get worse in low-light conditions, but the same goes for other phones in the price range. Overall, the Samsung M30 price Philippines 2021 and specifications are reasonable, except for the Exynos chipset. Therefore, skip this phone if you need good gaming performance.
